Late yesterday afternoon, the U.S. Department of Education issued a new proposed regulation on Title IX and a related fact sheet. The proposed rule would affect the rights of transgender students to participate on athletic teams that align with their gender identity. This is a proposal and has not gone into effect. Per the federal rulemaking process, the proposed regulations will be open for public comment for 30 days following publication in the Federal Register. OSBA will monitor the proposed rule and will provide updates to members as needed.
OSBA publication updates
The legal division at OSBA has updated two of its online publications, which are available for free on the OSBA website. We have updated the popular RC Dates and Deadlines page, which you can find here. This publication lists important deadlines and dates outlined in Ohio law of which school officials should be aware. The division also updated its fact sheet on the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children to reflect some recent legislation impacting the children of military families.
