Just yesterday, the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) posted additional draft sections of Ohio’s federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) template. Ohio released its original draft plan in Feb. 2017 after soliciting stakeholder feedback. In March, the U.S. Department of Education (DOE) released a revised ESSA plan template, and as a result, Ohio is releasing a revised plan application that meets DOE’s revised template requirements.

Ohio’s final ESSA plan will be submitted to DOE in Sept. 2017. In the meantime, ODE has been posting components as they are revised and soliciting additional stakeholder feedback. The revised sections are available on ODE’s website. Anyone wishing to provide input on the draft language is encouraged to email comments to essa@education.ohio.gov. Additional instructions for submitting comments are available at the provided link.

Final revisions to Ohio’s ESSA plan are scheduled to be presented to the State Board of Education at its July 10th and 11th meeting. Public input is an important part of the process of creating Ohio’s ESSA plan, and there’s still time to provide yours. If you haven’t already, follow the link above, take a look at the draft plan and send ODE your thoughts and suggestions.
