The Division of Legal Services is offering the following two upcoming events this month:

On June 28, the Sports Law Workshop will be held at Embassy Suites in Columbus. This workshop is designed to provide participants with information on the legal issues affecting school sports from both an academic and practical perspective. The program begins with a legal update from the Ohio High School Athletic Association's (OHSAA) new executive director, Jerry Snodgrass and OHSAA legal counsel Steve Craig, Esq. Attendees also will learn about the top legal issues impacting athletic programs; hiring, firing and bargaining implications related to coaching contracts; and drug testing student athletes, including the impact medical marijuana legalization could have on drug testing procedures. The Ohio Sports Law Handbook is included with the registration fee and the workshop has been approved by the Supreme Court of Ohio Commission on Continuing Legal Education for 5.00 total CLE hours of instruction.

The workshop cost is $190. For more information and to register, visit https://www.ohioschoolboards.org/event/register/19le0628.

Additionally, the first meeting of the OCSBA Labor Relations Roundtable will be held at OSBA offices on June 25 at 10am. Attorneys who are members of the Ohio Council of School Board Attorneys are invited to join us for an update from FMCS and to talk more about the issues you’ve been facing at the bargaining table, as well as how we can utilize future roundtable meetings to provide continued benefits to OCSBA members.

The Labor Relations Roundtable is exclusive to OCSBA members. Please RSVP to Lenore Winfrey at lwinfrey@ohioschoolboards.org by June 14 to let us know whether you or other representatives from your firm will be able to attend. Also, send any topics you’d like added to the open discussion portion of the agenda to mgreulich@ohioschoolboards.org by June 14. We look forward to your feedback and to continuing to provide you valuable resources through your OCSBA membership.
