The Ohio Department of Education (ODE) has announced that the window for district superintendents to conduct their required review of student and assessment data reported in the Education Management Information System (EMIS) is open until this Friday, July 27.  Data now subject to review includes student data and data for spring state grades three through eight assessments, spring end-of-course assessments, and fall third-grade reading assessments. This data affects many measures on the 2018 Ohio School Report Cards and, ultimately, the amount of state funding each district will receive.

ODE’s announcement stresses that this is the only opportunity superintendents will have to appeal this 2018 data. Districts submitting appeals and receiving approval early have more time to submit corrected data.

A second window for review of state report card data will be open from Aug. 13 to 23, 2018. More information about the data subject to review in that window is available on ODE’s website.

ODE offers information about which forms superintendents should use to submit appeals. ODE also prepared an instruction sheet to assist in the process. The data appeals forms can be filled out by the superintendent, EMIS coordinator or superintendent’s designee, but are not officially submitted to the Department until the superintendent approves each form. Questions about data appeals can be directed to ODE’s Office of Data Quality.
