In January, the ESC of Lake Erie West (ESC), which was the sponsor of the Electronic Classroom of Tomorrow (ECOT), voted to suspend the operation of the community (charter) school. ECOT suspended operations and closed shortly afterward.
As Ohio public school districts welcome former ECOT students back into their schools, OSBA is supporting boards of education with any assistance they need to help students smoothly transition into the public school system.
On October 13, the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) released evaluations of sponsors of community schools in Ohio, covering the 2014-15 and 2015-16 school years. The evaluation framework was revamped in December 2015 following passage of HB 2, which reformed Ohio’s community school system.
