Family Practice Physician at Superior Med, LLC

Noble Local grad gives back to schools, community every day

As the daughter of Noble Local (Noble) School Board Member Ruth M. Nau, it seems only natural that Melissa Nau would grow up and eventually end up serving others after graduating from Noble Local’s Shenandoah High School in 1986. “I had a great public school experience,” Nau said. “I was involved in sports, drama, and band. Even today, I try to attend (school events) and support all of the area schools and have let the youths in our lives know that (I am a given) target for any sales and fundraisers.” Nau went on to graduate from Wright State University’s Boonshoft School of Medicine in 1994, and then completed her residency at Washington Hospital in Washington, PA. She has been practicing family medicine for 21 years and now works at Superior Med, LLC, a community based, multi-specialty group practice partnered with the Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center. “I (live and work) in a small town and do what I do every day for my kids,” Nau said. “I have a 9-year-old, Xander, and 20-month-old Luke.” And, as she continually gives back to her family and community, they are certainly appreciative. Dr. Nau was a Patient’s Choice Award winner in 2008, 2009, and 2012.

Educational Inspiration

“I had several teachers who affected my academic career: Deno Capello, who taught me discipline in marching band. I still can keep a beat. Susan Sleeper who fostered my love of math. I am perfectly comfortable with being a geek, as you can tell. Paul Murphy who was my chemisty teacher whom I did not appreciate until I attended college chemistry and realized how much I already knew.” “Most poignantly, Diane Walker who told me point blank that I was more than a possible college candidate but that I was intelligent enough to be a success,” said Nau. “College was not on my radar until that time. Needless to say, I attended college and then medical school thanks to her. She died when I was in Medical School and I hope she knew how much she touched me, but I made sure to let her sons know.”

Giving Back

“My husband, Aaron, is a teacher at a local Catholic School. But, he and I both agree in supporting kids and education in the area in any available way. Whether that be buying wrapping paper, attending sporting events, cheering on my nephew who attended the local Tech Program, or buying gas cards to support my son's school.”
