Ohio Supreme Court
The Ohio Supreme Court ruled 4-3 that the House and Senate state legislative maps approved by the Ohio Redistricting Commission are unconstitutional. The Ohio Redistricting Commission has until May 6 to approve new maps.

State Board of Education
The State Board of Education interviewed seven candidates during executive sessions at this week’s State Board meeting. The State Board will publicly vote in the near future to advance at least three candidates to a second-round interview. The candidates who were interviewed this week include:

  • Stephen Dackin, former state board vice president;
  • Larry Hook, superintendent, Springboro Community City;
  • Thomas L. Hosler II, superintendent, Perrysburg EV;
  • Finn Laursen, former executive director of Christian Educators Association International;
  • Dr. David Quattrochi, superintendent, Carrollton EV;
  • Kimberly Richey, president of RealignEd and former acting assistant secretary with the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights;
  • Ronnie Tarchichi, superintendent, Pennsauken Public Schools, N.J.

The State Board’s Teaching, Leading and Learning (TLL) Committee did not review or vote on the updated Dyslexia Guidebook at the scheduled committee meeting. TLL Committee Chair Martha Manchester indicated that the committee will tentatively hold a meeting on April 28 to review and discuss the Dyslexia Guidebook.
