At least two major media events in September 2010 focused on public education. One is “Waiting for Superman,” a documentary by Davis Guggenheim (“An Inconvenient Truth”). The film, which was part of the lineup at the Toronto Film Festival and received critical acclaim at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, was released on Sept. 24 in New York and Los Angeles. It currently is going into wide release across the nation. The other is “Education Nation,” a weeklong series by NBC, which ran in late September. The series included a two-day “summit” at New York’s Rockefeller Plaza and featured programming across all NBC-owned stations.
